"Faith is to believe what you do not see.
The reward of faith is to see what you believe."
WHERE WE BEGAN
Our Priest's Home Chapel
"...greet also the church at their house."
Romans 16:5 NAB
As a newly establishing Catholic faith community in the greater Austin area,
we were temporarily worshiping in our priest's home chapel, dedicated to Holy Name of Mary, in Avery Ranch.
In a grand city of endless luxurious church facilities and institutional budgets in the millions, you may question attending a community that is in its humble infancy. Nevertheless, the Scripture reminds us that the Catholic faith began not in cathedrals but in private homes.
Through God's grace and our neighborly hospitality, we have now moved into Church of the Savior for Saturday Mass at 5PM. Father privately offers Mass for all the friends and intentions of Holy Name of Mary in his home chapel. You are daily remembered in prayer!
"...from afar will come and
build the temple of the LORD."
Zechariah 6:15 NAB
WHERE WE ARE
"The church...was being built up
and walked in the fear of the Lord,
and with the consolation of the
Holy Spirit it grew in numbers."
Acts 9:31 NAB
As Holy Name of Mary Catholic Chapel continued to grow, we were blessed to acquire public and accessible rental space for our weekly celebration of the Holy Mass. Thank you to our siblings in the faith at Church of the Savior for swinging wide their doors and inviting us to share their wonderful facility. God is good!
As Our Lord provides the means and grace to continue to grow in prayer, faithfulness, worshippers, and financial resources, our community understands the importance of growing beyond Saturday only public Masses and allowing our light to shine daily in the greater Austin area and Hill Country. We pray to one day offer daily public Masses in our own facility.
The Blessed Virgin Mary, in offering her fiat, her "yes" to God, demonstrated the faith required to walk in the calling
of the Lord. Just as Our Lady,
we do not know all the miraculous acts,
which will be accomplished,
but we know God's faithfulness is
assured to the pilgrim people.
"Entrust your works to the LORD."
Proverbs 16:3 NAB
Our Own Facility
"For I know well the plans
I have in mind for you...
plans for your welfare and not for woe,
so as to give you a future of hope."
Jeremiah 29:11 NAB
As a Catholic faith community, we are a visible expression of the universal Church, gathered together to celebrate the Our Lord's Passion, Death, Resurrection, and glorious Ascension into heaven.
We claim, as our own heart and truth,
the words of the Catholic Catechism, 1327:
"Our way of thinking is attuned to the Eucharist, and the Eucharist in turn confirms our way of thinking."
As the Blessed Sacrament is "the source and summit of the Christian life." We believe our calling is to purchase, or initially rent, a proper church home for our community where the Holy Eucharist is enshrined and made widely accessible.
In the mission of hospitality, our vision demands that we continue to grow and acquire permanent sacred space for the celebration of the Holy Sacraments, Christian education, social justice endeavors, and community engagement.
THE GREAT VISION
A Marian Shrine Open to All
"...since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us
and persevere in running the race that lies before us
while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith."
Hebrews 12:1-2a NAB
Holy Name of Mary Catholic Chapel is aptly named a chapel, for an important reason:
The vision of our community is not only to establish a thriving parish family,
but also to gift Austin an expansive and inclusive Marian Catholic Shrine.
We foresee manicured and supple grounds, in Central Texas, where all God's children, regardless of religious tradition, may pray, picnic, and be renewed for the challenges offered by life. The Stations of the Cross, a walking rosary, statues of saints, a grotto, and other sacred spaces will offer refuge and inspiration, reminding us we are truly surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses. The main chapel, named for Our Lady, will be a sanctuary of inclusive Catholic liturgy where no one needs to question the invitation of Jesus and Mary to draw near. An ecumenical altar will also be made available to pilgrim groups and local churches of various denominations and traditions to offer their worship to Almighty God. The sacred grounds will offer a safe place where couples and families, of all types, can hold hands and pray together, knowing they are secure under the protection of the Blessed Mother's mantle and in the company of friends. Truly, our Catholic shrine will affirm the universality of the faith!
We proclaim, in faith, the shrine will be a tangible manifestation of the love of the Holy Trinity, the motherly affirmation
of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and a fulfillment of Our Lord's Prayer, "thy will be done on Earth, as it is in Heaven."
Yes, the vision may feel insurmountable from every angle. It will require significant development investments and ongoing financial support.
Real Estate in the great city of Austin tends to come at great price. As Catholics, apart from the wealthier Roman jurisdiction, our current resources are simply the seeds of faith being planted each time we offer the Holy Mass. Yet, we stand on the words of Scripture which promise us:
"...because of your partnership for the gospel from the first day until now.
I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus."
Philippians 1:5-6 NAB
If you have a heart's desire to see inclusive creedal Catholicism expand in Central Texas and the Austin area, consider becoming a partner with us today
and, by God's grace, we will do the impossible for with Christ nothing shall be impossible! Let us run after the prize!
