Social Action
Christians Opposing Prisoner Execution (C.O.P.E.)
COPE is a group of parishioners who are opposed to the death
penalty. Our goals are to educate our
parish regarding our Catholic teaching against the death penalty, to reach out
to all victims of violent crimes, and to change the laws of our state and
nation with regard to the death penalty.
COPE sponsors informational meetings, makes pertinent material available,
and conducts community wide vigils expressing our opposition to state and
federal sponsored killing.

Detention Ministry
Holy Name of Mary Catholic Community Archdiocesan Detention
Ministries provide Communion Service, Sacrament
Preparation and Bible Study / Fellowship to the young inmates of these camps,
which are run by the L.A. County Probation Department. The age range of these young men who are often abandoned, neglected and sometimes
forgotten, is from 14 to 18 years old. If you have a heart to help in these
young men’s salvation, or if God has been tugging on your heart to make a
difference in the world where we live, give one of the Chaplains a call as each
of the camps needs are different. They
will be happy to introduce you to a fulfilling, grace-filled ministry. Contact
the Pastoral Office for more information.

Respect Life
The mission of our Respect Life Ministry is to provide an
educational, political, and supportive agenda that fosters a strong respect for
life at every stage and in every circumstance. Activities include an annual
Walk for Life fundraiser for our local crisis pregnancy center as well as a
Mother’s Day Rose Sale to generate funds for the same purpose. As the need
arises we keep our parish informed on political issues that have a high social
justice impact in the sanctity of life arena,
including abortion, infanticide, euthanasia and capital punishment. Saturday
mornings give us an opportunity to provide a visible sign of walking and
praying the rosary in front of the local Montclair
abortion clinic. We are in need of generous hearts who can join us for prayer
on Saturday mornings, or from time to time man the tables at our church exits
and collect legislative signatures, or sell fund-raising roses. Contact the Pastoral
Office for more information.
Social
Justice Ministry
The Social
Justice Ministry will work collaboratively and where appropriate take a
leadership role in providing charity, education and advocacy concerning the
principles of Catholic Social Teaching.
This effort will be spiritually based and animated by the teachings of
Christ. Our goals are to: Participate in
the ongoing education of our community concerning the Church’s teachings on
justice. Work to apply these principles in our parish community as well as
locally, nationally, and internationally. Be advocates for public policies that
affirm human life, human dignity, and reflect a consistent life ethic.
