Children’s
Liturgy of the Word is offered during the 10:00 a.m. Mass and is first and
foremost a worship experience for children.
They leave the main church faith assembly with a catechist and meet in a
room in the school building. There they
have an opening prayer, 1st reading, psalm and responsorial psalm,
Gospel acclamation and Gospel with a homily by the catechist. After the Profession of Faith and General
Intercessions they return to their families in the church, usually coinciding
with the collection. All of the readings
are age appropriate using a Children’s lectionary following the Sunday readings. Children’s Liturgy of the Word is encouraged
by the Directory for Masses with children and is intended to form them in the
liturgical language of the church and to immerse them into Scripture in ways that
are understandable to them.
This
program is under the direction of the Director of Religious Education working
with a team of catechists that rotate teaching in teams of 2. This ministry of the Word for children is
open for ages Kindergarten to 3rd grade and does not require any
registration.
We
are always training and welcome new catechists for our children. If you would like to be part of the team,
please call Liz Moran at extension 232.
Thank you!
